Sony unveils new wireless microphone ECM-W5
The kit transmits audio over a distance of up to 500 meters and records a backup track to built-in memory with 64 GB capacity
The kit includes two transmitters and a receiver. When connected to a compatible camera via Multi Interface Shoe, audio is transmitted digitally and saved together with video in a single file. Using a USB Type-C adapter, the system can be connected to a smartphone or computer, and compatible Sony wireless headphones can be used for cable-free monitoring.
The transmitters support recording in 32-bit float format, which helps preserve quiet and loud sounds without constant gain adjustment. They can be used with lavalier and external microphones, and to expand the system, transmitters and receivers are sold separately.
The ECM-W5 will go on sale in November 2026 for $399.99.
