Meta glasses reported to record even in sleep mode
Typically, the glasses require the command 'Hey Meta' to activate, but owners say the devices sometimes start recording without it

Meta's smart glasses have found themselves at the center of a new privacy scandal: an increasing number of owners with 2nd and 3rd generation devices are reporting covert eavesdropping.
In theory, the device should activate only after the phrase 'Hey Meta,' similar to Siri or Alexa. However, users on Reddit report that the gadget independently wakes up and records private conversations without the corresponding command, conducting constant monitoring of the surrounding environment.
The situation appears particularly ironic given that Ray-Ban Meta glasses already have a notorious reputation. Due to their ability to discreetly record video, they have long been dubbed 'pervert glasses,' and some establishments, such as popular New York nightclubs, have already imposed lifetime bans for attempting to bring the device inside. Users online joke that privacy violations from a company whose business model is inherently built on collecting others' data should come as no surprise.
In response to an investigation by Android Authority, a Meta representative stated that the issue has already been 'resolved.' The company reminded users that they can always view and delete voice logs of interactions with Meta AI in the settings.
