Xbox may close its games to PlayStation and Nintendo

Microsoft is surveying the community about the idea of making all its new blockbusters exclusive

The Xbox gaming ecosystem may finally abandon its multiplatform strategy, leaving PlayStation and Nintendo users without future releases in many key franchises.

Last summer, Microsoft began tightening the availability ring, declaring the Clockwork Revolution project and the Gears of War: E-Day shooter as console exclusives. Now, according to an internal survey for Xbox Insider program participants, the corporation is considering making absolutely all its titles exclusive, with the exception of Call of Duty, without affecting PC releases.

As part of the study, Microsoft directly asked the audience whether making franchises like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Doom, Diablo, Physint, and even Minecraft exclusive would prompt them to purchase an Xbox.

Under this scenario, games already released on competitors' platforms may lose further support. The Windows Central editorial team emphasizes that conducting such surveys does not yet guarantee a final change of course but clearly illustrates the current direction of top management's thinking.

The initiative is also resonating within the community itself: the return of the exclusivity concept became the most popular proposal on the Xbox Player Voice feedback portal, gathering over 26,000 votes.

If management makes a positive decision, this will mark a major shift from the policy of recent years, when the company's own blockbusters were actively released on third-party manufacturers' devices.
