It became known that Kylie Minogue's songs were used for AI training
Australia may become the first country to consider weakening copyright laws
John Phelan, Managing Director of the International Confederation of Music Publishers, believes that companies are pushing Australian authorities to allow AI training on works without licenses, threatening to withdraw investments.
In materials presented by the organization, Google Gemini reproduced lyrics from songs by Kylie Minogue, G-Flip, and Nick Cave. Phelan also pointed to a dataset containing over 12 million compositions extracted from videos on YouTube.
Members of the parliamentary committee on artificial intelligence called the situation a deadlock and recommended revising existing regulations while preserving authors' control over the use of their works and their right to compensation.
