First Review of Phantom Blade Zero
The review rated the game 8.5 out of 10, with the official release for PC and PlayStation 5 scheduled for October 29.
The review authors called the combat system one of the strongest in the genre in recent years. Journalists also noted the high dynamism, smooth animations, spectacular kung fu techniques, the 'Sha-Chi' energy management, the dark atmosphere of wuxia fantasy, and the music. The game's arsenal includes over 30 types of weapons, and skills can be freely reset for experimenting with builds.
Among the drawbacks, critics highlighted the disappearance of regular enemies after the first territory cleanup: during subsequent searches for chests and secrets, locations remain empty. The design of mobs seemed monotonous compared to the vivid bosses, and some boss battles were so lengthy that developers added saving between phases. Additionally, the game does not allow free customization of controls on the gamepad.
Other ratings from gaming media are expected after the official embargo is lifted.
