Waymo has announced an expansion of the territory where its driverless taxi rides are available. New areas will appear in Los Angeles, Nashville, Orlando, San Diego, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The changes will be implemented within a week following the October 27 announcement.

The total expansion area will amount to nearly 250 square miles, or approximately 647 km². This refers to an increase in existing service zones, not the launch of the service in five new cities.

In Los Angeles, robotaxis will extend southward along the coast into the South Bay area, including Torrance. In Nashville, passengers will be able to travel further south—specifically, to the city zoo.

In Orlando, Waymo will nearly double its coverage in the eastern part of the city and expand service in the downtown area. In San Diego, the ride zone will stretch north to La Jolla.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, the service will cover additional territories to the south. Among the new locations is the Berryessa BART station in San Jose, where passengers can transfer between robotaxis and public transportation.

The company did not disclose what portion of the additional area pertains to each city or how many vehicles will be required to service the new districts. The availability of a specific address can be checked in the Waymo app and on the service’s maps.
