Sony Updates PS5 Security Again Ahead of GTA 6 Release
Firmware 14.22 includes security fixes. Sony has not disclosed details

Sony has released a system software update for PlayStation 5, numbered 26.07-14.22.00. According to IGN, the firmware became available on November 2, with a download size of approximately 1.27 GB.
The official changelog is limited to security fixes. No new user features are listed.
The previous version, 14.20, was released on October 21. At that time, Sony reported improvements to messaging and the usability of certain screens, without mentioning security changes.
IGN links the frequent updates to activity within the PS5 modding community. In late September, exploit tools emerged for several older firmware versions, including compatibility with the PS5 Pro. Subsequently, some games began requiring a more recent system version to download updates.
The heightened focus on console security is tied to the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto VI. The game is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The community is discussing which firmware version will be required to run it, though official requirements have not yet been announced.
The mere discovery of a vulnerability in the system does not mean it can be used to run unofficial copies of any game. The capabilities of specific exploit methods vary, and Sony continues to release patches.
