The hardware for the device, according to this information, has been ready for about two years, but the software is still not completed. The development team pushed for a delay in the launch and suggested reducing the set of features to capabilities for FaceTime and home automation tasks, such as turning on lights.

The robot has the codename J595. Former Apple employees suggest that the device will be named HomeView Ultra, similar to the HomeView display. Its price could be around $1,000 or more. The robot will feature a 9-inch screen on a rotating arm, and cameras and sensors will allow it to follow the user during FaceTime calls.
