Samsung has announced the launch of an updated Sleep Apnea feature for the Galaxy Ring in the U.S. This feature helps detect signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea—disorders in which breathing repeatedly stops during sleep.

The updated algorithm analyzes indicators, including blood oxygen levels and movements during sleep. In addition to assessing risk, users are provided with information on the estimated number of breathing disruptions per hour.

The check is performed through the Samsung Health Monitor app using a compatible smartphone and wearable device. It requires collecting analyzable data from two nights within a ten-day period.

The feature is intended for users aged 18 and older who have not previously been diagnosed with sleep apnea. It does not replace medical examination and treatment but may prompt users to discuss the results with a specialist.

According to Samsung, the updated version received FDA approval in July 2026 and subsequently gained approval from South Korea’s MFDS regulator. The initial feature for the Galaxy Watch was approved by the FDA in February 2024.

The new capability is also available on the Galaxy Watch9 with Wear OS 7.0 or later. Samsung plans to add support for the Galaxy Watch7 and Watch8 in future updates.

Samsung intends to expand the feature’s availability geographically, though timelines for its introduction in other countries have not yet been disclosed.
