Google has announced the Quick Share SDK—a set of tools for integrating file sharing into third-party applications. It was introduced at the Android Dev Summit 2026. Support is planned for both Android and iOS.

Currently, sending files via Quick Share requires navigating from the app to the system's "Share" menu, then to the service's full-screen interface. The new tools will allow developers to shorten this process: a small panel with a preview of the files being sent will open directly within the app.

Transfers will occur directly between nearby devices. According to Google, the connection is secured with end-to-end encryption and works without internet access. Photos and videos can be sent without compression.

The toolkit will also handle connection setup, including creating an access point and using Wi-Fi Direct on compatible devices. Developers will not need to maintain their own servers for file transfers.

Google intends to release the Quick Share SDK in the first half of 2027. After that, the appearance of the feature in specific apps will depend on their developers; file sharing will not be automatically enabled in all applications.
