ChatGPT Catching Up to Google? OpenAI Reports Search Queries at 20% of Competitor's Level
The company states that the volume of search queries in ChatGPT has reached approximately 20% of Google's query volume. The original data and detailed comparison methodology have not been published.

The volume of search queries in ChatGPT amounts to roughly one-fifth of the number of queries made to Google. This estimate was provided by Adam Frye, Head of Consumer Products at ChatGPT, during a conversation with Big Technology journalist Alex Kantrowitz.
The discussion took place on November 2 at an OpenAI event in New York. Frye explained that users are increasingly turning to ChatGPT for up-to-date information about people, places, and other objects, as well as for questions that require internet searches to answer.
According to the provided explanation, a separate query is counted as a question that triggers a web search. Therefore, a single extended dialogue may include several such requests.
However, this figure does not mean that ChatGPT has captured 20% of the global search market or taken a fifth of Google's audience. The company is comparing the volume of queries between the two services. Independent verification of this estimate and the detailed counting methodology have not been presented.
Frye also reported that over the past two months, ChatGPT's weekly audience has grown from 1 billion to 1.2 billion users. According to OpenAI, 250 million people use voice features, including dictation and conversational mode, weekly.
Additionally, the company representative stated that users create approximately 1.5 billion images in ChatGPT each week. All these figures are provided by OpenAI itself.
