Honey, Hornets, and New Monsters: The Creators of 'The Witcher 3' Reveal Details About the Next Expansion's Region
In Songs of the Past, Geralt will travel to Letten—a new region with its own architecture, local traditions, and monsters. The expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set for release in 2027.

Developers at CD Projekt RED have shared details about the creation of the Letten region for the narrative expansion Songs of the Past. According to Habr, citing an interview with IGN at the Lucca Comics & Games festival, level designer Miles Tost and writer Paula Meissner provided insights.
The creators aim to give the new territory a distinct identity, setting it apart from the mountainous Skellige and the swampy Velen. Letten’s architecture blends British aristocratic motifs with elements of Polish rural landscapes.
Everyday life in the region is tied to its environment and quests. For instance, the local beverage brecket—a mix of honey and beer—has influenced the region’s economy, requiring apiaries and hop cultivation. Honey also plays a role in the introduction of a new monster, the Swarmion, which has a taste for the sweet treat and uses hornets for protection.
The developers also discussed their work with the source material. Writers collaborate with a team of experts on the books and games to ensure new stories seamlessly expand Andrzej Sapkowski’s world.
Songs of the Past is being developed in collaboration with Fool’s Theory. The release is scheduled for 2027, though an exact date has not yet been announced.
