Claude gains access to bank accounts — expense analysis allowed, money transfers prohibited

Anthropic has begun testing Personal Finance — a feature for analyzing personal finances through connected accounts. It is currently available to Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers in the U.S.

Anthropic has introduced Personal Finance — a section in Claude where users can link their bank and card accounts via the Plaid service and ask questions about their expenses.

The assistant can categorize spending, identify recurring charges, unexpected fees, and increased regular payments. It can also generate expense graphs, create a bill calendar, and explain financial terms.

Access is limited to read-only data: Claude cannot transfer, invest, or independently manage funds. The connection is made through Plaid, so the chatbot does not receive the user’s bank password. It has access to balances, credit limits, and transaction history for up to two years.

According to Anthropic, conversations within the Personal Finance section are not used for model training. For information shared outside this section, the user’s standard privacy settings apply.

The company emphasizes that the feature is not intended for investment advice. Claude may make errors, so significant amounts should be verified against bank statements. The help section also notes that account balances may be displayed with a delay.

The beta version is being rolled out gradually and currently supports only U.S. banks. No timeline has been provided for its launch in other countries.
